Ambassadors
Initiated in 1994, the Ambassador Program was developed to bring greater awareness, leadership and activity into the high schools on behalf of the Blue-Gold Football Game. Two seniors and two juniors are selected by faculty, staff and administration leadership from each Delaware high school based upon character, leadership, sensitivity and compassion for others. The Ambassadors help to spread DFRC’s message of diversity and acceptance throughout their schools and communities and help to raise money for DFRC’s beneficiaries. Banners representing each high school are created by the Ambassadors and are displayed at Blue-Gold events and on Game Day. Click here to view past year's Blue-Gold High School banners.
All Delaware high schools - public, charter, private and parochial - are encouraged to nominate two senior and two junior ambassadors to represent their student bodies in the Blue-Gold All*Star Football Program. Each nominee must have the recommendation of both the Blue-Gold factulty/staff advisor and the school's principal. Call the DFRC office at (302) 454-2730 to learn who is your school's Blue-Gold advisor.
One of the largest groups in the Blue-Gold Program is the band. All high school band musicians, drum majors, band front and auxiliaries in grades 9 through 12, are encouraged to volunteer to participate in the Blue-Gold Band. As seniors, band members can be paired with a buddy in the Hand-In-Hand Program. A school does not need to have a football team or a regular marching band in order for their musicians to participate. There is no limit to the number of band members who may participate from any school.
The Blue-Gold Band Director is Brian Cox. Blue-Gold Band members are self-nominated, but must have the recommendation of their band director/music department chair and school's principal. Please contact you school's Marching Band director or Music Department chair for information, or call DFRC at (302) 454-2730.
Each high school cheerleading coach can nominate two seniors to represent their school in the Blue-Gold Game. Cheerleaders are selected based upon character, skill and school spirit. The Blue and Gold Cheerleading Coaches are selected from schools throughout Delaware. Schools need not have a football cheerleading squad to participate, but all cheerleaders must have the recommendation of their school's cheerleading coach and principal. Check with your school's Cheerleading coach for information, or call DFRC at (302) 454-2730.
Cheerleading Coordinator for the Blue-Gold All*Star Game is Lisa Stasio. She is responsible for rules and safety regulations as well as the coordination between the Blue and Gold cheerleading teams.
Football Players
Players are nominated by their own high school coaches, athletic directors and principals through an application and character verification process. All-State or All-Conference athletes are not automatically selected to play in the Blue-Gold Game. They must meet Blue-Gold character standards and are screened the same as all nominees. The Blue and Gold coaches then select players from the nominees to play in the game.
Thirty-six players are selected to each team. The Blue Team consists of players from most high schools in New Castle County. The Gold Team is comprised of players from all high schools in Kent and Sussex counties as well as the Christina District and Appoqunimink District high schools. Each high school with a Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association sanctioned football team will have at least one representative on a Blue-Gold squad each year, however no school may have more than five representatives in a single year.
The Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association (DIFCA) selects the Blue and Gold head coaches. The Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game Committee Athletics Chairs are Mark DelPercio and Mike Ryan.
