High School Participants
Ambassadors Band Cheerleaders Players
All of Delaware's high schools, public, private and parochial, are invited to nominate candidates to participate in DFRC's Blue-Gold All*Star Football Game program.
This program starts with orientation and training for all high school participants in late-January and runs through Game Day in June each year. High School participants can be Ambassadors (Seniors and Juniors), Band Members (All grades, 9-12), Cheerleaders (Seniors only) and Football Players (Seniors only).
A high school that does not have a varsity football program can still nominate Ambassadors, Band Members and Cheerleaders.
Click here view the list of High Schools invited to participate in 2009-2010.
There are statewide Blue-Gold events for all High School Participants each month in March, April, May and June leading up to Game Day, and attendance at as many of this events as possible is a must. Missing one or more events may result in a Blue-Gold participant being dropped from the program.
High School participants who are seniors, may also elect to participate in the Hand-In-Hand Buddy Program where they will be matched with child or young adult with an intellectual disability who is between the ages of 4 and 18. Those Senior participants who elect to have a Hand-In-Hand Buddy, are expected to say in contact with their Buddy between the statewide events - through telephone calls, emails and get togethers outside the Blue-Gold calendar of events.

Ambassadors
Initiated in 1994, the Ambassador Program was developed to bring greater awareness, leadership and activity into the high schools on behalf of the Blue-Gold Football Game. Two seniors and two juniors are selected by faculty, staff and administration leadership from each Delaware high school based upon character, leadership, sensitivity and compassion for others. The Ambassadors help to spread DFRC’s message of diversity and acceptance throughout their schools and communities and help to raise money for DFRC’s beneficiaries. Banners representing each high school are created by the Ambassadors and are displayed at Blue-Gold events and on Game Day.
All Delaware high schools - public, charter, private and parochial - are encouraged to nominate at least two senior and two junior ambassadors to represent their student bodies in the Blue-Gold All*Star Football Program. Each nominee must have the recommendation of both the Blue-Gold factulty/staff advisor and the school's principal.
If you would like to be a Blue-Gold Ambassador, Senior or Junior, contact your school principal or your school's Blue-Gold advisor or call the DFRC office at (302) 454-2730.
Updated Band Calendar now available. Click here to view/print. Band applications are still being accepted. Call DFRC or contact your band director.
One of the largest groups in the Blue-Gold Program is the band. All high school band musicians, drum majors, band front and auxiliaries in grades 9 through 12, are encouraged to volunteer to participate in the Blue-Gold Band. As seniors, band members can be paired with a buddy in the Hand-In-Hand Program. A school does not need to have a football team or a regular marching band in order for their musicians to participate. There is no limit to the number of band members who may participate from any school.
Blue-Gold Band members are self-nominated, but must have the recommendation of their band director/music department chair and school's principal.
If you would like to be part of the Blue-Gold All*Star Football Game Marching Band in 2010, please contact you school's Marching Band director, Music Department chair or Principal for information, or call DFRC at (302) 454-2730.
Each high school can nominate two senior cheerleaders to represent their school in the DFRC Blue-Gold Game. Cheerleaders are selected based upon character, skill and school spirit and must have the recommendation of the football cheerleading coach and principal.
If you would like to represent your school as a DFRC Blue-Gold All*Star Football Game cheerleader, please check with your school's Football Cheerleading Coach or Principal for information and pertinent dates for being accepted into the program. If your school does not have a football cheerleading squad, please contact the DFRC office directly at (302) 454-2730.
Football Players
Players are nominated by their own high school Head Football Coaches and then screened by their school's Athletic Director and Principals through a character verification process. All-State or All-Conference athletes are not automatically selected to play in the Blue-Gold Game. All players nominated must meet Blue-Gold character standards. The Blue and Gold Head Coaches, who are selected by The Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association (DIFCA), then select players from the nominees submitted to play in the game.
Thirty-six players are selected to each team. The Blue Team consists of players from most high schools in New Castle County. The Gold Team is comprised of players from all high schools in Kent and Sussex counties as well as the Christina and Appoqunimink District high schools. Each high school with a Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association sanctioned football team will have at least one representative on a Blue-Gold squad each year, however no school may have more than five representatives in a single year.
